How to set up a relaxing spa day at home
As we’re doing so much more from home these days: working, cooking, even hosting virtual events, our space dedicated to resting has become a little less, well, restful. It’s time to reclaim that space. We’ve listed our Top 10 favorite at-home spa products & treatments and now let’s put them to good use. Of course, you can wear your mask as you do dishes or make phone calls, but if you want to create a relaxing space, you’ve got to set the mood.
Tips on setting the mood for your at DIY home spa experience
Today we’re exploring how to turn your home into a mini spa sanctuary. And it’s all about the ambiance and setting the scene for relaxation:
-
Remove Distractions
The spa atmosphere promotes a deep relaxation, which can be hard to replicate while you’re concerned with household tasks or buzzing notifications. If you’re making a homemade spa for just you, we highly recommend you pick a small room where you won’t be bothered, that you can easily clear of distractions or unnecessary electronics for at least 15 minutes, but ideally an hour. If you’re hosting a group of friends, have a basket for everyone to hold their phones in while you treat yourselves. -
Music / Dulcet Tones
Replicating the spa experience at home wouldn’t be complete without the soothing sounds lulling your body into relaxation. Consider making a Spotify playlist (or use ours!) to set the mood. If you are hosting a virtual spa night on Zoom, you can share your audio for everyone to sync up, or have a countdown for everyone to mute their audio on the call and start their playlist at home at the same time. -
Block Out the World
If you’re looking to block out the noise of the world around you to create a relaxing environment and music isn’t cutting it, try a sound or white noise machine. We recommend this sound machine which offers 30 immersive non-repeating sound environments for better sleep, relaxation, and sound masking. -
Smells / Soothing Scents
Whether you have a diffuser or a few scented candles made from essential oils - scent can not only transport you to your favorite spa, but it can have great effects on the mood of your at home spa party. Our favorites are the classic calming scents of Lavender or Chamomile, but you might also try a citrusy Bergamot, which can help relieve anxiety, or Geranium which has a rose scent and can help relieve stress. -
Low Lights, High Comfort
Dim the lights or turn them off and use a variety of scented candles from tea lights to multi-wick ones and lamps with warm lamp shades, instead of overhead or natural lighting. -
Luxuriate in the Details
Your at-home spa deserves all the luxury of a spa escape. Wow your guest with warm towels with a towel warmer (or even just a cycle in the dryer). Break out a facial steamer to get the most of your face masks. Make an infused water like cucumber, lemon, or mint in an easy pour pitcher. And of course, dress for the occasion in fluffy robes or comfy button down sleep shirts.
Nothing will quite replicate the experience of a spa getaway, but when you need a little something special, these few tips will have you taking back your home in the name of relaxation.
